How does a lip filler treatment work?
Filling or enlarging the lips is done with fillers. Your practitioner assesses your face at the beginning of the treatment to determine the amount of filler you need. You both decide which brand is best for you. A numbing cream is applied, and once it has taken effect, the treatment can begin.
The filler is distributed over the lips using a thin needle. This can be done in a linear manner, where small amounts of filler are injected into the lip red and gradually distributed. Alternatively, the Russian Method involves injecting into the lip border for a curling effect that flattens out.

Result of Lip Fillers
Immediately after the treatment, you’ll see some changes, as your lips will already have gained some volume. Some of this is due to swelling. You can reduce swelling by properly cooling, for example, with a cold pack. After 2 weeks, you’ll see the optimal result of your full lips. The volume will last for about 6 to 9 months.
If you’re not satisfied with the result, you can return to your practitioner for a follow-up appointment 2 to 4 weeks after the treatment. Always wait for the full 2 weeks for the optimal result. If your lips are fuller than you wanted, you can opt for a hyaluronidase treatment to reduce them to the desired level.
Aftercare for Lip Fillers
After the lip filler treatment, you can move the treated area normally. However, avoid massaging or rubbing on and around the lips for up to 48 hours after the treatment unless instructed otherwise by the practitioner. It’s common to experience swelling and bruising after the treatment, and it’s recommended to cool the area well.
Keep in mind that swelling will initially increase before decreasing. Also, avoid exercising for up to 24 hours after the treatment and avoid visiting the sauna or tanning bed for 2 weeks afterward. The skin is extra sensitive to UV radiation, which can affect the result.

Frequently Asked Questions about Lip Fillers
At Faceland, we distinguish between the linear and Russian lip filler techniques. The linear method adds volume to the entire lip by injecting filler into the lip red. With the Russian method, injections are made locally in the lip border. This accentuates your lip shape and slightly lifts it.
